After graduating from Monash University, Dr Catarina Ang completed her basic medical training at Monash Health before travelling overseas to train in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery as the recipient of a number of national scholarships. Catarina held the role of Clinical Research Fellow at John Radcliffe Hospital at Oxford followed by a fellowship at the renowned laparoscopic centre in Clermont Ferrand, France. She has been Head of the Gynaecology 1 Unit since 2009, and was the first female surgeon to use robotic technology in Australia in 2012.
Catarina is committed to continually extending her knowledge. She holds a Masters of Reproductive Medicine, Diplomas in Epidemiology and Surgical Education and Catarina recently completed a Masters of Business Administration. Catarina is Director of the AGES endoscopic program at The Royal Women’s Hospital, she teaches in public and private practice and directs clinical research with the University of Melbourne and her unit at The Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne.
Catarina’s areas of special interest are endometriosis, complex fibroid disease, pelvic pain and infertility. She is affiliated with Genea, a leading Australian IVF provider and innovator of reproductive technologies.
Her extensive international training and experience allows her to perform advanced and complicated surgeries with low complication rates.

Dr Kiri Chan completed her medical degree at Melbourne University in 2004 before completing her primary Obstetrics and Gynaecology training at Melbourne’s Royal Women’s Hospital, where she worked under the guidance of our Principal Specialist, Dr Catarina Ang. During her training and since completing her specialisation, Kiri has been working in the field of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology at the Royal Children’s Hospital and Monash Children’s Hospital. Kiri is an executive member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology. In addition, she has public appointments at Austin Health and the Royal Women’s Hospital. Since 2013, Kiri has been actively involved in the education of medical students, registrars and general practitioners.
Kiri practices General Gynaecology and has a special interest in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology.

Dr Genevieve Read received her medical degree from Flinders University in 1997 and obtained her fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2013. Genevieve is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at The Royal Women’s Hospital and Latrobe Regional Hospital. At both hospitals, she is actively involved in the training and teaching of both medical students and registrars.
Genevieve is recently participated in clinical research conducted by Cabrini Malvern into the effectiveness of the treatment of patients with vulvovaginal atrophy symptoms, specifically in women with breast cancer who have contraindications to HRT.
Genevieve’s sees Gynaecology conditions such as cervical dysplasia, menstrual disorders, contraceptive methods, amenorrhea, pelvic pain, PCOS, lichen sclerosus, prolapse, incontinence and menopausal issues.
Dr Anisha Sarkar

Anisha is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and has been awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). During her training, Anisha has also completed a Fellowship in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology. She uses her knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for gynaecological health and medicine to provide high-quality, patient-centred care.
Anisha has worked in some of Australia’s leading tertiary hospitals, including the Royal Women’s Hospital, The Mercy and the Royal Children’s Hospital. She draws on this experience to provide her patients with up-to-date and evidence-based care. Anisha is passionate about offering holistic and compassionate care to all of her patients.
Anisha sees patients for complex and general gynaecological issues including:
• Menstrual problems
• Irregular bleeding
• Colposcopy/ pap smear abnormalities
• Laparoscopic surgery for benign conditions (ovarian cysts, pelvic pain)
• Contraception
• Transgender, Gender diverse and Non-binary gynaecology
Anisha is currently a Visiting Medical Officer at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne and Eastern Health. She operates privately at Cabrini (Malvern), Epworth Freemasons and Warringal Private Hospital.
Dr Christine Thevathasan
Dr Christine Thevathasan received her medical degree from Monash University and qualified with Honours. She received extensive experience, completing her Obstetrics & Gynaecology Fellowship training at Monash Medical Centre, The Mercy Hospital for Women, Northern Hospital, Bendigo Base Hospital and in the UK at Canterbury and District Hospital.
Dr Thevathasan has been practicing in Malvern and Bayside for over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience in General Gynaecology to Migynae. She is delighted to join this dynamic group after running her own very successful private practice.
Her particular areas of interest are heavy menstrual bleeding and associated menstrual problems, contraception, sexual dysfunction, menopausal issues and clarifying what constitutes normal (physiological) versus abnormal (pathological). Her attention to prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment of gynaecological conditions makes her a most thorough clinician.
She continues her work as a Visiting Medical Officer at Sandringham Hospital where she performs public Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is happy to provide Shared Care. She performs surgery privately at Cabrini Malvern and Masada Private Hospital.
She continues her involvement in teaching medical students and Obs & Gynae trainees. She has had an active political involvement through her work with the AMA and NASOG. Christine committed her time to the Federal Government maternity Service Review and MBS review for Obstetrics.
Christine will continue to consult from her Brighton base as well as here at Migynae’s Malvern location.
Dr Eashan Tambimuttu

Dr. Eashan Tambimuttu is an Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist, holding a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG). He excelled in this field since university where he earned the first-place prize for Women’s Health.
He has undertaken an accredited Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery (AGES) Fellowship in advanced minimally invasive and complex surgery with the Gynaecology One Unit, Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne, headed by Dr. Catarina Ang. His additional training allows him to perform complex gynaecological surgeries with modern, minimally invasive techniques, meaning faster recovery times for patients and low complication rates.
Eashan’s experience comes from having worked in several centres including leading tertiary hospitals such as The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane, Monash Health, Mercy Health, and The Royal Women’s Hospital. He continues to stay up to date with evidence-based medicine and is completing a Master of Reproductive Medicine.
Eashan’s areas of special interest include:
- Complex pelvic surgery for conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, uterine disease, and ovarian cysts
- Evaluating and treatment of infertility
- Robotic-assisted surgeries
- Contraceptive counselling and management
- Colposcopy and cervical screening abnormalities
- PCOS holistic management
- Management of menstrual problems.
