Getting a new patient appointment – in detail
A specialist or GP referral is required for you to attend MIGYNAE. There is no need to ring our rooms because we are unable to offer you an appointment until we receive your referral and registration details. Our doctors require all the information contained in those documents in order to decide how urgent your needs are.
Once our office receives your referral, an sms will be sent to your phone with a link to a secure portal where you can fill out your registration form, upload relevant documents and results and have an opportunity to give some background into your concerns. All this information will be taken into account by the triaging doctor who will instruct staff to offer you an appointment relative to the urgency of the condition.
Once you have accepted the appointment, you will be sent a confirmation email with further details to ensure that you have all the information you will need for your upcoming appointment. Should we require any further documents than those already delivered, you will receive a DocuSign® email request. This secure encrypted email portal allows you to send confidential information with confidence knowing your privacy is protected at every step.
Suggested documents for uploading
- A referral from your GP or other specialist (GP referrals last 12 months, whilst Specialist referrals only last 3 months) – essential
- A copy of any recent relevant blood tests or pelvic ultrasounds – if applicable
- The result of your last Cervical Screening Test (previously known as a pap smear test) – ideal
- Previous relevant medical history from other specialist – if applicable
- Operation reports/biopsy results from previous gynaecological surgery – if applicable
Appointments and parking
Each consultation for a new patient takes approximately 30 minutes whilst review appointments are 15 minutes in length. Our specialists aim to run to appointment times, however, given the nature of our practice, delays are sometimes unavoidable.
Limited parking is available on the Malvern premises. Curbside parking is available on Glenferrie Road and all day parking is located on one side of Haverbrack Avenue, directly opposite our rooms. Please check the parking signs in Haverbrack Avenue as the alternate side is restricted to two hourly parking.
Dr Christine Thevathasan also consults at 132 Bay Street, Brighton where there is amble parking on the premises and in Bay Street itself.
If you are running late for your appointment, please call us to let us know. We all know what the traffic can be like in Melbourne! Whatever the circumstances, the specialist time you require has been reserved especially for you, therefore, please understand that if you are late, it may encroach on the time your doctor has to spend with you in order to avoid delays with their other scheduled patients.
Feel free to arrive 10 minutes before your appointment. At Malvern, we have a comfortable sitting room with soothing playlists and herbal tea available on arrival. We offer full accessibility for our patients with mobility issues. Children are welcome at our rooms; we have private breast feeding facilities and a baby change table. Given the nature of our service we request that you be mindful of other patients’ experiences and be aware that your children remain your responsibility at all times.
SMS reminders
We will send you a reminder SMS message the week before your appointment which will give you a chance to confirm at least 72 hours prior to the date. Please call our office if you are unable to make your reserved spot and would like to reschedule. This enables us to offer appointments to other patients on the waiting list. Any cancellation within less than 72 hours can incur a cancellation fee. Rescheduling of appointments is subject to availability and we may not be able to give you your desired times.
Fees
As a private practice, our specialists do not usually bulk-bill or offer Pensioner Concessions. Each Doctor sets their own fees. Payment is usually made on the day of consultation. We accept cash, credit card, direct debit and EFTPOS. We are able to submit your Medicare claim online to allow for your Medicare rebate to be automatically deposited back into your nominated bank account. Please note there is no Private Health refund on outpatient services.
If you have any questions related to fees and billing, please contact our friendly administrative team on 03 9500 1828.
Please note: patients who have not been seen for over 12 months will require a double appointment and a new referral from either their GP or another specialist.
